La Fourme d'Ambert, Sauterne, and other french words...
We are entertaining guests this weekend, friends from North Carolina, and thought it would be lovely to snark a bit, and enjoy some good food and wine. We picked up 1/2 # of La Fourme d'Ambert, for a staggeringly cheap $4.99 at the local wine shop. To go with it, we got the standard water crackers, and a not-so-common Fig and Ginger Jam to spread along with the very salty, little biting blue. My wife is not so fond of blues, so for her to say "get that" with reckless abandon shows you just how uncommon this cheese is. We went with a Sauternes, which name escapes me, but was recommended to us by the salesman. We liked the Chateau Gravas, and was told that this wine came from the same region, across the Garonne River. We snagged that, and an unknown Muscat on the cheap.
It ain't high society, but it sure is nice to explore your palate with friends :)

I'd recommend for the non-Blue lover the British blue called Shropshire. I fits well with sweet fruits.
